I have to say, all of my initiative finally paid off with this one. Since graduating from The Art Institute of Seattle, I’ve had my eye on getting into the inner circle of the Seattle chapter of Fashion Group International (mainly to help the group to develop a larger presence in the city through graphic design) and it finally happened.
After meeting Marj Turner, Regional Director, at a the FGI Seattle Members Networking Event last fall and keeping up appearances at the FGI Seattle SS2017 Trend Event where the group had a very in-depth discussion about the “trends” that would be making waves this season, I was invited to join the Communications Committee as their graphic designer. And although I’m donating my time to the organization, I’m super excited to share my ideas and help the organization grow.
At the Annual Members Meeting on February 2nd, I had the opportunity to meet the other board members and Communications Committee members, Angelica and Kali. During the meeting, I was lucky to have my iPad equipped with a Logitech Ultrathin Keyboard Folio to take as many notes as possible. The meeting adjourned after an hour, but I ended up staying for about another hour to chat with the team and exchange contact information with Yuliya Suleymanova, Founder and CEO of Suley Group.
I’m going to hold off on sharing what the Communications Committee has planned, but it’s going to be amazing! I did, however, share my design progress at the latest board meeting and I got some great feedback. So if you’re working in the Seattle fashion industry, but not currently a member of Fashion Group International, be sure to join ASAP. And if you are a member, get ready to mark your calendars!
