I first met one of the founders of Her Big Day, Karen Okonkwo, at Fashion Week at The Bellevue Collection last year and we instantly hit it off when she invited me to Her Big Day: A Cultural Wedding Affair that took place earlier this year. I’ve also been following Karen on social media and I have to admit that she truly inspires me to continue moving forward with Stylishly Made with her daily doses of #KarensThoughts. I was unable to attend Her Big Day presents: A Bridal Brunch, but I made sure that I added their quarterly industry mixer to my calendar.
The event took place last night at Grappa in the Queen Anne neighborhood of Seattle and is held on a quarterly basis for wedding industry professionals to network with each other. I was able to meet Katie, the Catering Manager for Hilton Seattle, who invited me to the “Christmas in July” event that will be held at the hotel conveniently on my birthday, so I may have to make an appearance. I also met Pastor Dave Ptasnik, a “Spiritual Humanist Officiant for Secular Services”, who shared some of his interesting graphic design experiences with me. I even got to chat with makeup artist Sable Desiree, who I share the same first and maiden last name with (crazy!). We had an interesting discussion about one of the organizations I used to work for which got my wheels grinding about an idea that I’ve been toying around with for a few months. I’m not sure if I have the time to dedicate to it right now, but maybe in the future, I can revisit it.
There were a few other professionals in attendance that I didn’t get a chance to chat with because it was getting late and I had to settle in for my hour-long commute back home to Tacoma. Overall, the event was great, I passed out some of my business cards and got a few in return and also got to nibble on some delicious appetizers (notice the picture above is about the only one I took because I was so busy networking). I’m looking forward to many more events with Her Big Day and can’t wait to follow up with everyone.
